Courville Architects designed a third story over the existing wood frame structure turning a dated seventy’s style house into an updated Mediterranean stucco finish home meeting the current building code at the time of the renovation. The structural challenge was to make the 3rd Floor addition independent of the wood frame 2nd floor and create a load path carrying the dead load to the foundation at the ground floor below.
